Hello Uk Workshop forums, I'm new so thought i would say HI, been reading the forum all today having found it.... good lord some of you guys are hardcore craftsmen & know your stuff, I can see this place being addictive.

I do bits of wood work myself having spent the last 8 years making handmade musical instruments for a living, won't go into details, I'm mostly self taught other than picking the brains of Joiner friends, i have a tendacy to think out the box with how i approach things.... I'm avery trail & error person.

Anyway I stumbled onto this place whilst looking for inspiration for my home workshop, I just bought a house which will in time give me the opportunity of having a home shop where I can work on my own projects, having turned my hobby into my job Im looking forward to having my own home workshop space for personal & fun projects... once i have moved in & made some benches & set some tools up of course.

anyway best get back to it & looking forward to reading & posting some stuff here.

Hi giantbeat, and welcome!

There are a number of luthiers and other instrument makers on here -- as just a hack woodworker I'm in awe of them, but you'll fit right in, I'm sure :)

Regards,

E.

ahh Mr The Viking, nice to hear I'm not the only instrumentalist, but I'm looking forward to hacking some more domestic woodwork more than anything... its something i have not had the chance to do much of since school.

Hi Giantbeat

Welcome to the forum indeed. I was at one time an avid maker/restorer of instruments but I seem to have migrated a bit since then to tools....mostly because I made some for particular instrument making jobs and enjoyed that part of the craft more....

I am pleased that you make money out of your skill...I sold a few of my pieces and worked out that I would have been earning below minimum wage if I ever took it up professionally! It takes far more skill than I had to make a living out of it!

We all love pictures up on the forum so go ahead and post away...looking forward to it!

I thought it was all Brass in Yorkshire!

I only made one guitar and found it very demanding, so wish you a happy workplace.

Nay, We seem to be making a collection of Gold and Silver at the moment. I certainly wouldn't want to try taking the Gold from Nichola Adams.
