Hi all,

I hope this is okay to post. We have a very new green woodworking club starting to form in Essex. We have secured an area in Upminster where we can hold our meets which is fantastic news. I recently got bitten buy the green woodwork bug and was disappointed in the lack of clubs or groups in the Essex area. I am a complete newbie to green ww but thought if nobody else creates a club then it will never happen. I have never created a club before so I’m hoping to get some help from members of the group.

We only have 7 members so far and have no meetings arranged as it’s all very new. I wanted to see if there are any members of this forum that would be interested. At the moment we don’t have a website, and the group is on Facebook. I understand not everyone has Facebook so a small website will be created if I can work out how to do it. Feel free to PM me if you would like anymore information
Apologies if this is in the wrong section (hammer)

All the best
Danny

I'd be interested!
Never done green woodwork before, but like the idea of meeting fellow woodworkers and giving it a go

Are you in touch with the APT&GW? Very nice people.
Good luck :)

Hi Mike, I’m actually based in Benfleet, South Essex. But I’m lucky enough to have a boss who owns plenty of land in Upminster who is willing to let us hold our meetings there. Where abouts are you?

Essex Suffolk borders, near Sudbury. Benfleet and Upminster are like Mars to those of us up here. :)
:D be nice if you could make it for the day once though mike. There’ll be plenty of tea and cakes to make the journey worth it

Hello all who read this. Just found this post and forum so thought I'd join up.

Firstly - Huge thanks to Danny for getting the ball rolling and starting the first local Essex APTGW group. Unfortunately Danny had to take leave and I graciously took over the reins. It's been nearly a year since we restarted in a new venue and the group is going well, with quite a few new members finding us in the last 6 months. It would be great to find some new folk here, so don't hesitate to fling any queries my way.

We meet twice a month at Bedfords Park Walled Garden, in Havering-atte-bour, not far from Romford. It's a beautiful location steeped in history. The award winning garden is maintained to very high standard by an amazing team of volunteers. I can't wait for everything to start blooming again this spring, it really is a spectacular venue to meet up, and make wood chips, drink tea, talk tools and wood, and most importantly to connect with other wood botherers.

We have a wide range of members, with experience ranging from complete newbs to well regarded veterans of the scene. We have quite an age range from early 20's up to those ages folks like to hide lol. We're not all about wood either, we have a few members that weave, be it basketry, or wool. Any rural or ecologically sound crafting is welcome and encouraged. At a recent meet a member was making a fishing net for landing his supper. I myself am a full time carver, specialising in Spoons, Bowls, Kuksas/Cups, and Bird Bowls.

The venue has free secure parking (within the gardens walls), is fully wheelchair accessible, has toilets, a kitchen, and a brick pizza oven!

Our meet-ups are free, bar putting 50p into the tea fund. They are primarily for members of The Association of Polelathe Turners & Green Woodworkers, but we welcome new folks along for a couple meets to see if they'd like to join the APTGW.

Membership only costs £20 a year, you'll get a quarterly magazine, filled with news of various local groups around the country, and we also have a yearly festival for members "The Bodgers Ball" which is an amazing event where you'll make new wood pals from all over the country.. and a few internationals that make the trek.
