New End Table

Hi

This is a new 1st proper project of mine. I am going to make a end table to go at the end of my new sofa in my sun room. The table will be made from oak of which i am going to purchase tomorrow from my local timber yard. Either oak plank or sleeper, is there any difference?

The size of the table will be 600h x 400w x 400d

The table legs will be 2" thick, but my problem is that the oak only come in 1". Should i just glue them together or alter my design?
I would like some advice on how to fix the table top to the frame if possible

A sleeper (oak or softwood) will be 4" by 8" and probably not good enough quality for furniture, plus you'll need a big bandsaw to get it to the right dimensions. If this is your first project, you probably want to find a good timber merchant who will be able to provide you the thickness of timber that you want and planed all around (PAR).

I have managed to obtain some 2"x2" oak off cuts from the timber-yard now. waiting for a quote on some 1" boards then i can start to get the wheels into motion. I have just bought a new Triton MOF001 also, so i am looking to utilize this a lot on the project

This is the 1st leg squared up. The picture doesn't really show the nice grain. I squared it using my new router and a planing jig

That looks almost identical to my first mortice and tenon joint!

Do you have a chisel that is the right size to get in the mortice and clean it up?
