We have a 3 or 4 year old Sony tv which can bring up iplayer etc and even lovefilm but not netflix. I looked into it a few years ago too and couldn't get anywhere so I got a small pc with a HDMI out graphics card, wireless keyboard and mouse and its used every day. I installed media hints extension to Google Chrome browser to watch American Netflix and Firefox installed to watch the British Netflix. Lately though you can get Android on a usb stick and could get Netflix working on your TV that way - as always the more you pay the better the spec. Might be a bit cumbersome though.
