I have 22.296 mails in google mail and most seem to be something to do with Picassa.
I have managed to select all, go blue, but pushing the delete key on my keyboard has no effect.

How do I get rid of them, also why all these things titled Picassa and from contacts unknown to me?

Try selecting the offenders and clicking the dustbin icon at the top of the page. That should get rid of them.
To also help it may be worth looking at the Filters option under settings in Gmail. I won't explain how to set up a filter, you may be able to work this out yourself. If not let me know. I have also used the filter to apply labels to my emails as this also helps to sort my mail out.

Incidentally, I recently found out a couple of useful things about Gmail that I didn't know. These can also help filter mail or detect where spam comes from.

Say, if your gmail address is [email protected] . Gmail takes no notice of the full stops (periods). So [email protected] will also get to you as will [email protected].

Also another and I think more useful thing is that [email protected] would also get to you. This can be useful when filling out your details if you think spam might be getting to you from that site. You can detect that it is and filter it out if it does. Only problem with this is that some forms don't allow "+" as a valid character in an email address.

Cool!
Thanks for that tip!

DW, don't forget you can use @gmail.com instead of @googlemail.com.

Do not have a dustbin icon on page.
I went to more
and there is a typed TRASH, had all post selected and clicked that but nothing was trashed.

Anymore help appreciated please.

I assume you are using a standard web browser to look at your mail. If you are using an app some of the functionality may be different. I see something like the picture above. I marked the dustbin with red.

I had gone in via i/e and asked for my google mail. I will try and go in via Chrome perhaps things will be different.
thanks, I will let you know after the effects of the jar of Carling black label have worn off.

And I used to live in Basing in 1963, Cavalier Road and worked for the Pearl Assurance in Basingstoke, originally at the top of Market Street, but then they had a new building along the main st ( the one with the Red lion pub).

OK, I have found the trash bin, but I only seem to be able to select the twenty mails on each page and send to the trash and I have over 22 thousand mails, is there not a way to select the lot at one go and then place in bin?

PS, had a very bad day, Skype not working, gmail aggro, printer not accepting compatible inks (spent over three hours on that one) Could not get through to USA, I think the snow has pulled the phone lines down?
Stuck a pencil lead under my thumb nail and the lead has broken off under nail.

Not having sex tonight.

The simplest way is in the search box in Gmail

Type something like this....

from:(serif.com)

replacing serif.com with the sender of the mail you want to delete.

Then there is a tick box above the individual messages which will select all with this criteria. Easier to do than explain. Be careful though as you only want to delete those mails you want to lose. I think you can undo it though.

Scrub that....

It only does one page as you said.

In that case you need to create a filter and there is a box that will apply it to all other "conversations" so should do all of them. Filter on the sender if you can.
