I'm seeking advice in what router to get so I know for the future, as allways budget is a problem but I'll save my socks off.
I have some router bits that are 1/2 so I'm looking for one to take that size.

What can you recommend.
New or 2nd hand?

Thanks

Are you planning to use it in a table or handheld?

Sorry I should of specified. Handled I guess for now. Tho I dont really know what I needs and if the cutters I have are used for a table or a handled one :s

Maby a good link on what's what may helps narrow my search.

Thanks
TT

The cutters should be equally as appropriate for both. The only exception are very large cutters that need to be table mounted and may require a slower speed- panel raising bits for example.

You could do a lot worse than an old elu 1/2" one, ideally soft start and variable speed. I can't recall the model numbers though.

They are one of those tools that, in time, it is handy to have a couple of, including a smaller one for quick rounding over tasks.

Elu MOF 177 and 177E are possibly the models that Marcros is thinking of.

I have a couple of these, a few years old now admittedly, but all of them are still going strong.

If you're tempted by the DeWalt and Trend ones (Elu 'copies'), look at the T11. It's got the ability to adjust height through the baseplate, which the DW and the T10 don't. It has a bigger aperture in the baseplate, too, for panel raising cutters on the router table, otherwise exactly the same spec as the other two.

That way, if (when!) you want it in a table, you only need one extra hole for really easy height adjustment. Much less fuss than a router raising contraption, and they're still really nice handheld. If you unscrew the elephants foot from the plunge depth stop and take it off, you can raise it enough for easy cutter change above the table too.

I like the look of the Makita ones but have never used one. Now I have a T11 I probably never will, I guess.

I have a 3 yr old makita. Very nice router in my opinion. Elu are good to.. As the saying goes "You get what you pay for"

The Dewalt 625 is about with around £50 off in a lot of places. Makes it around £200. Not sure what your budget is. I was looking at the Dewalt for the table and a Festool 1400 for handheld, but currently evaluating my options as I can't decided what I want to do table wise.

+1 for the Trend T11 EK. That's what I have installed in my router table and its got all the grunt and the fine adjustment you need. Works a treat topside too.

Edit: TT....this post has more details about my setup with the Trend including pics of my router lift which is in fact a screwdriver. Very easy.

I have a Makita 3612c and a Hitachi M12V both are nice, the Hitachi is in my router table.

I like my Triton for the table (it has not came out)! And I have an 1/4 inch one for doing handheld work, I think it was a Polish make Perls or something similar.

Quick question on this: do either of these old Elu models offer above the table depth adjustment and bit change?
