New addition to the collection of vices arrived over the weekend. I've no idea who it was made by and I haven't had a good answer from anyone else yet. Lots of people said it looks like a Peter Wright, and it does. It's MUCH heavier than my PW though. 6" wide jaws, weighs 40 kg. Pulling the lever allows the front jaw to pivot. Given the size of the handle and the overall build strength it seems to be made for some serious work!

I was looking, but decided not to bid - (not cheap but doubt you'll ever see another) - seller said prob USA but has an English look to me. But while it has some of the Peter Wright look his vices were made from wrought iron (maybe some cast bits on v late models?) whereas this seems to be of (high qual) castings for the main body parts.

Excellent acquisition and worth the price. Somewhat envious, but glad it's gone to a knowledgeable owner.

Wonder if there was ever a swivel base to go with the central lock screw and wingnut?

Wouldn't say knowledgeable - just knew I'd never seen one like it! Yes, it's all cast. Really well done as well. I was quite lucky to get it - a friend of mine in Germany had sent it to Andrew Alexander (blacksmithtools on instagram) and he didn't look at the message till after the auction ended. He said he thinks maybe a small production run or a patternmaker project. I think production of some kind, its just too well finished to be a one off.
