Anyone know what this was used for?
Graces Guide provides info on Elliot Brothers being an early instrumentation maker eventually moving into electrical instruments. So, possibly an aid to calibration ?

From a carpentry tool chest, wonder why would a carpenter squirrel it away wrapped in waxed paper. I am thinking it had an original as intended use, and then possibly a tradesman found another use for it later, but could be way off the mark.

As a former employee of Elliott Automation I can definitely state that I never saw or used one, but my guess would be it's to mount an accelerometer so that it could stand with it's pointed feet securely in a mat on the seat or in the footwell of the car being tested.
