A few months ago I dragged our cheap and cheerful kitchen table into the workshop, sanded it down to bare wood and varnished it. For some reason I can't fathom it's remained sticky to this day.
The table is pine (the centre panels are pine veneer) and I used Ronseal satin interior varnish.
I use this varnish all the time (with many times on pine) and I've never had this happen before so something is different about this application but I don't know what. I applied it as I normally do, with a sponge, and the application went smoothly. I lightly sanded after the first coat and that seemed to set properly. I didn't apply it particularly thickly and I don't remember it being particularly humid or anything else out of the ordinary (but it was a while back). Any ideas?
