Spent the day trying to find a table saw on island yesterday. Went to Limassol, which is like the industrial capital of the island.
Got a faint lead on a closing down joinery shop, but it didnt materialise. Found a woodstar ts 12 in a basement of a radio control shop (I am REALLY trying here). In an opened box but not assembled. The guy tells me he is doing me a favour as he doesnt have any more and there "might" be a table missing.
He tells me 500 euros.
Then he has a brain wave, rushes over to another corner of the basement and produces what looks like a dexion racking shelf. Shouts out "here it is" and suddenly the price is 600 euros.
i told him I might be back.
Checked it out online when I came home. Its obsolete, and when it wasnt, it was £300 in the UK.

The search goes on.

Thanks for trying, but I have seen that one in the flesh.
Its a contractor site saw, so great if youre after chopping up lumber, but the fit and finish is not that good. The side extending table doesnt line up with the main table either. so if I wanted to cut a wide piece, it would be cocked up at the side.
I can do with my bandsaw and mitre saw better work than that can produce.
And I really, really really want a cast iron table.

Didn't I read that another forum member was bringing you a table saw?

:D :D :D :D :D
Thats an "in" joke with memzey. I cant see his daughter being very happy when told her luggage allowance is part of a wadkin. #-o

Bob

You've probably already considered this or something similar but how about an Elektra Beckum PK200. I would call it a precision site saw :) It has sliding table, extensions, decent fence, good build quality, reasonable dust extraction etc. but compacts to a small size for shipping and can be had for about 200 quid second hand with all the bits. Obviously it will cost to ship it but a lot less than a Wadkin. Not in the same league as a Sedgewick or Wadkin but not bad IMO for the money/weight etc.

Cheers
Andy

Keep your chin up Bob and don't compromise. The worst thing you could do after all this time and effort is settle for something that isn't right.

Bob won’t axi send you a TS250? Lots of folks on here have one and most seem pleased with it (I have never used one I must say).

The issue is shipping costs - they're almost as much as the saw

Well then - it appears you only have one option. To build one!

..I'm not serious by the way. Or am I?

In the Falkland Islands, people save on shipping costs by putting stuff in cars that are being shipped in. Any chance of doing that in Cyprus through the expat community?
Or see if the British military have unused workshop gear they want to sell off - it is surprising what stuff they want to get rid of sometimes.

sorry lads, been away for a few days I dont do emails when I'm poolside (g).

to answer a few of the replies at the same time, axminster is the best shipper I have found price wise. But of course I have to buy a new product from them. Even then, shipping is £200 minimum. add that to a £650 saw and you can see why I dont really want to spend my next 10 years birthday money in one go.

It gets sillier, because if i want to ship a used saw with a private shipper, the shipping goes up to £450, which is a bit stoo-pidd on a 200 quid used. and takes it to over a grand for cheap wadkin (I have seen wadkins sell on ebay for 900 quid, total to me here 1350? I dont think so)

I dont know any one who is shipping a car, unfortunately.

But the site saws that I have found here are not amongst the most accurate and theres no point swapping my wonky mitre saw for a wonky table saw.
I have found an island agent for holzman, and he can do the same deal as holzman are selling on ebay europe, but again, its 999 euros and when I asked on here, I only got one reply about holzman and it was a terrible one.

The quest will continue, I dont give up easily. I can work around not having one, even if it does entail a lot more time, but hey, this is a hobby, right?
