Well I've occasionally sold stuff on eBay and shipped it very successfully with MyHermes. No drama until the last thing I've sold. Shipped it insured and signed for. The chap who bought it is a fellow slave of the tree, and the item didn't turn up. MyHermes after enquiringly why it had been out for delivery for 5 days updated the tracking to suggest that they'd popped it in the resioiants letter box. Well, not a problem, except the box I sent it in wouldn't fit into any letter box, and let's not forget the fee for the signed delivery. So, I'm currently on day 7 of trying to get them to now honour the insurance I paid for.....MyHermes is IMO playing the let's wear him down routine. The amount of money isn't significant, the principle is. Many a man has died due to his principles, and I may be one of them....but, god bless the small claims process of this company as they will be getting a CCJ if they don't reappraise their position.

Trying to get hold of them is also an art form.

Don't get me wrong, any company can have a problem. It's how they deal with it when it happens that differentiates the brilliant for those in a darn right dash to put off customers.

Anyone else have a similar love affair with MyHermes?
 
They chucked a £80 item intended as a wedding present over our 8 ft side gate and then suggested the sender had not packed it properly.
Sender told us to take it up with the carrier but I explained I had no contract with hermes and it was not my problem.

Absolutely!

The onus is on the sender to get the goods to the buyer in a timely manner and in good condition. Make a claim on the seller not the carrier. If the item was bought through eBay or paid for using PayPal either should refund you.
 
I would be upset if I had problems with Hermes, their depot is 50 yards away.

Its a pain as every day I get loads of cars arriving to collect their parcels to deliver. Especially annoying for them when the road is blocked by a timber delivery :D
 
I gotta' be fair to my local guy, he's brilliant.
Rings or drops me a text when he's delivering or delivered and I've not been there.
 
Great hermes guy also down here, however they hire just about anyone and they don't really care what they hire..hence just depends on your person who is responsible to deliver packages to your postcode :(
how much did they get paid per delivery? 20p or 50p?
have had damaged items as well with hermes, some other hermes guy before that just left my package (expensive electronics) out in the rain, when opened the package /item was full of water, God only knows how it still worked..
 
I had MyHermes lose a £100 insured item and their claim process worked pretty well, I had the £100 plus delivery charge refunded in around a week leaving me annoyed for the loss but not out of pocket. Definitely wary of shipping higher value items with them.
 
Hermes here have been pretty good. I would never trust them with something fragile or really expensive but they have been great for large ebay sales. Sent out a box of wood this week, would have way too much to use Royal Mail, hermes were cheap, picked it up and it's pretty hard to break lol.

I have dealt with most of the courier companies over they years, all have good days and bad days and all have their own niche for which they are best suited depending on the item being sent. Only one that I really try and avoid is ParcelFarce, not only are they expensive, rude and have messed up the most in the past, they also have unique (along with RM) legal advantages which make them harder to hold accountable.
 
I have had mixed experiences. By and large good, one or two disasters. On one occasion the delivery driver signed for the delivery himself using my wife's name. The goods had vanished. Hermes relied on the signature. Unfortunately for them she was in Germany at the time of the alleged signature and she may have a long reach, but not quite that far. That said, the supplier of the goods replaced them straight away. The Hermes driver and I now understand each other....
 
I agree it is probably down to the person with the local franchise. Where I am that person is an utterly useless moron. I actually now contact sellers who say they are using Hermes to say I will only bid on an item if they will agree to a different courier if I win.

Last experience was when I won an item on ebay, didn't arrive. Seller said Hermes said it was delivered. I said get them to show you the signed for receipt. He said I should contact them, I tried but Hermes said "who the f&*# are you, we don't have a contract with you." I told seller, he said Hermes were 100% sure it was delivered. I said, prove it. Nearly a month after it was sent it arrived. Having spoken to him several times I believe the seller was genuine, so my belief is that somebody at Hermes was lying.

My wife still uses them, never wait to get signature and only if we are lucky do they even ring the bell to let us know there is something there. I keep telling my wife to tell whichever retailer it is that we did not receive it and that Hermes need to show the signature as proof. She says I'm a grumpy old man, she's right of course.

As above. Depends on the driver. My guy is a lovely fella and always makes sure stuff is safe. He even leaves signed only stuff because we get on well and he knows I'm not going to stiff him.
My mate Lucy had a picture frame delivered over the gate in a thousand pieces. Complained, was sent another. Guess what happened? Not twice but FIVE times till she just thought F it and cancelled the order. The mind boggles at the sheer idiocy that it involved.
