I picked up the following tools while on holidays recently:

Coffin-shaped smoother by John Moseley, London- plenty of cosmetic damage and sole worn but should make a nice user once cleaned up.

Oil stone- no idea what stone, will post this in another thread to see if anyone can help me identify it.

22mm spanner, marked "A.E.C"- presumably the bus manufacturer.

1/2" chisel marked "GTL British Made"- back is bellied but I'll see if I can do something with it.

12" hand file, ******* cut by Nicholson, USA made- looks to be reasonably sharp.

Smooth file by Alterspencer, Sheffield- worn but still some life left.

The lot cost me €12, not bad I think and will keep me busy for a few hours cleaning and fettling!

If the stone is indeed a Welsh Yellow Lake Quarry slate they go for about £20-30 in good nick so I'd say you got a bargain right there!

Try polishing the bevel on the smoother iron and see how it performs...use water or light oil...I'd go for water personally...with a drop of Fairy Liquid in it.
