I have just bought some lovely new Whitehill cutting heads for my Multico tenoner and am now having trouble getting the old heads off. Is the nut holding the lower head a left hand thread, and a right hand thread for the top head? Or is it vice versa??

Nuts that hold blades on loosen the way they cut. So if your head spins clockwise, the nut will loosen clockwise.

Not sure this is a 100% rule but all my tools obey it.

If you look at the new blocks the nuts supplied are marked so you should be able to work it out from there.

Also you may a ready be doing this but there is a hole in the shaft to take a piece of bar or a big screw driver to lock the heads in place.

Yes, thread for the bottom nut was a left hand, and top nut had a right hand, i.e. as you said Matthew. Both undid with a sharp tug on the socket bar with an extension fitted for extra pull. New cutter heads now fitted and working very well.

Thanks for all the help
