Thanks Inspector, but I just can't see a reason to buy from abroad when I can get next day on something here with a domestic guarantee and no need for import duty + shipping + horrific fees.

A diy heresy bodge, but my VFD is mounted inside an oversized Tupperware, screwed through lid then Tupperware clicks over/around the VFD. Tupperware is c. 2cm bigger all round and heat management is fine.

No sweat but keep in mind that virtually all the electronics, LED lights, tools etc., come from China so you will have paid the duties, shipping, and so on one way or the other. Having it locally with service is a definite plus. When I looked for mine I likely save 50% to 100% and there is nobody in this city with them that wouldn't e bringing them in form somewhere.

Maybe if I'd bought a few before and had a little more confidence I'd be tempted. As it is it feels like the whole thing is on the very edge of what I can get my head around. It would be a lot easier if I had a bunch more time this month for research!

Morticer is up and running. Many thanks to everyone who helped me with this. After reading everything I went for a combination that was in stock, affordable, and well documented (in a way that I actually understood!). I went with a Schneider ATV12. As it is IP20 I fitted it in a steel box. I could have mounted it internal to the morticer as suggested (such as in the storage cabinet section) but as my workshop is a sort of 'grace and favour' space on a family member's property, I wanted it to look "max legit". Configuration didn't take long – navigating menus on these types of things is always a learning process, but I was done in about 20 minutes. A remote control pad that can be mounted in the door is on back order and cost an extra 20 quid or so.

Anyway, thanks again everyone. It's much appreciated.
