MRMDF Worktop protective coating

Hello everyone,

i have replaced my bench worktop with a mrmdf sheet. More so now with the current prices of sheet goods i am thinking of applying a coating of some sort to give a little protection from spillages etc (i know its MRMDF). Has anyone any recommendations? i do have a tin of no nonsense trade floor varnish.

That varnish is good stuff. I have it on my workshop floor since 2007 - 3 coats just starting to wear through on areas of heavy footfall. I'm in there nearly every day
