Found this 18" screwdriver at the car-boot the other day.
I wonder how old it is and if L Davies marked all his tools with such flourish? :)

It's a London pattern turnscrew, no idea of date but I would think you are looking at 17 or early 18 something rather than 19 something.
 
I'd be more cautious on dates - with an established, standardised design which was offered continuously for so long, there is so little to go on to give a date.
My 1938 Marples catalogue lists the London Pattern turnscrew in sizes from 3 to 18 inches. Interestingly, there is a pasted in slip on that page showing a price reduction, dated 1967.

Thanks for the comments. It certainly looks old but, of course, that's no real indication of its age.

I was more intrigued by the effort he used to mark it with his name.
