Iv'e just purchased Movie Studio 13. As I am not too good following written instructions when I open the programme I can go to a Show me how tutorial.
It is OK until I get to "Step 3 of 14". and this is a screen shot of that page.

Up to that point everything is OK but now cannot get any further as there is no highlighted "Next to continue.

Is there anyone running this programme that can help please.

Alan.

Have you checked to see if there are any updates for the software? usually Help and updates.

Hi Alex, I've tried their help line and they cannot help and suggest I go online for help. I've tried youtube but none are for studio 13. They are for platinum or better and none of the screens they show are anything like mine, so I am fumbling my way through it.

Thanks Alan.

[/quotHave a browse through guirilla bill's youtube videos. What he doesn't know about movie studio probably isn't worth knowing.

Thank Col. Had look on there, none like mine but having watched only the first 15 minutes of one I have already picked up some good information. I have the manual on the lap top but find switching from the programme to the manual a PITA so I have decided to print it off all 68 pages   but found to that I can do double side printing on my printer, which I didn't know before. So now with the manual and the you tube info. I should be able to make some progress.

Thank you for the link Alan

I think (he said nervously), I don't trust the step 3 of 14 thing - been there, written help systems and I know they're a devil to keep synchronised with the software itself if you're daft enought to develop them in parallel*.

Meanwhile, back at your problem: I think the software is expecting you to double click the "title roll" that you've dragged onto the text timeline. Try cancelling the wizard/help thingy and double clicking on the frame at the start of the timeline (in the orange box). If that fails, try a right-click on the same frame and look for 'edit' in the list of options. You might get it to give you the 'next' button without cancelling it, just by doing the double-click anyway.

That's a quite-possibly-wrong educated guess, secondhand and without any warranty!

It's certainly the case with earlier versions (of Vegas Pro, which I am familiar with) that you couldn't just put in blank title frames pending witty ideas, but you can put in placeholder text and change it later.

If you're really trying to do a roller caption (i.e. the way end credits typically look on TV), its slightly more complex than just a static set of lettering, as there are other parameters, such as how fast you want it to roll, which direction, etc. along with the fonts, text colours, and so on. You'll find it a lot easier to start with a string of static captions that just fade in/out, as there are far fewer settings to worry about.

Hope that might be helpful but apologies if I've misunderstood.

E, (been away, hence the late reply).

* Rule 1: It's only 'completely safe' to write the help/wizards once the actual code for a software release has been frozen, and few companies do that because of the delay it adds to getting the product out. I might, once, have been guilty of slightly unfinished help myself, but will deny it if questioned... rule 2 is never, EVER let software engineers write the help as they're far too close to the product and forget to explain things they think are 'obvious'...

Hello Eric, Thanks for that information but I have given up on trying to follow the "show me how" as it was probably showing me how to have a heart attack.
I've gone to the trial and error and along with the manual am making progress albeit very slowly.

I've got the credit roll OK and am loading the video that I wish to edit. I am then splitting it along the time line putting in a transition and merging them to give me a fade in/out.

I don't do much with the video camera that I need to edit but some 5 or 6 years ago I got roped in by the then Lady Captain at our golf club to video her Captains day. I had on my PC the ulead studio programme so decided to edit it for her (what a mistake to make). and i've been given the job ever since. It was so easy before as all i had to do was load the video , press Split by scene, drag the scenes into the time line ,add transitions and burn to disc. I don't think this Movie studio is quite that simple but I will keep trying

Thanks again Alan.
