The post about making something for your girlfriend got me thinking.

The first thing I made for our future home (you did not get shacked up before you were married in them days  ) was a bread board, made from a laboratory bench found in the university skip.

It's still in daily use 42 years later

A forty year old bench hook. Sensibly, though, you'd exclude workshop related stuff.........then a sycamore and elm kitchen table, which is in constant use, and has been for nearly 20 years. There's someone sitting on it now.

My bed, then the next most used thing is a rabbit shaped knife block- still brings a smile when I pull out its ears for snipping things.

Not been at this woodworking malarkey for too many years, but a shoe rack was about the first thing I made and it’s been in constant use ever since.

It had to be made with the shoes on an angle, such that it was narrow enough to go behind the door. It was annoying as over time the shoes would slowly slide off with each knock and bang. Last week after 6 years of use the wife tidied up and turned it around so the wall stops the shoes falling off, stroke of genius, as they say the problem with conmon sense is that it is not common  !

My not-quite-a-set of 4 greenwood dining chairs are in everyday use, and are all still standing despite being free from glue, screws or nails. They are alll on here somewhere as WIP.

Actually, much of the stuff I've made is still in use I think. My DW uses the stool I made in school woodwork class at 13 or 14. At the weekend I noticed my Dad still has a tray I made before that.

In that case, it's about time you made some chairs to go with it!

(PS - I made a chopping board from a piece of sycamore about 30 years ago, and still use it almost every day. My mum has a mahogany tray I made at school about 40 years ago, which still sees regular use, though the finish is looking a bit jaded now.)

:) My eldest always sits on the table. Or the worktop. There are chairs aplenty.

Teak dining table and chairs , it’s used most days since I built it.

Pete

no1 my workbench

no2 breadboard that I use daily with breadboard ends, it's stayed flat

no3 the toolchest

First thought was these but then realised it's undoubtedly our front door as this is a working farm with folk in and out all day.

Coasters and placemats, used multiple times a day. Other than that I am struggling to think. I don't own a lot of the things I have made and plenty of the things I have made are specialist or rarely used items.
My pink ivory darning mushroom for instance, it's lovely and when I do use it I am so happy to have made it, but I try and avoid darning too much

Not sure which was earlier, but I've made a half-moon belt pouch and an arrow quiver around 20-25 years ago, both of which are still in use by their owners.

A TV/video cabinet. I made it about 30 years ago. It has been in constant use since. It was the first piece of furniture I made and the mistakes I made stare out at me now. One day I will replace it, but my wife is strangely fond of it.

also my bed - and that knife block still makes me laugh out loud when I think of it - I still think you should have put the cleaver in it's head.

I didn't have to search for it to remember that - it's indelibly seared into my memory - for those that missed it:
