I have just seen a tenoning jig on sale @ rutlands (£100 off!) but it made me think; is there a standard distance used from blade to mitre slot?

As I'm doing a homebuild TS, I might in the future like to make use of items like this where the distances are preset, so would anyone (or a few) oblige and measure for me how far their mitre slot is from the blade please?

I cant help you on that, but if you are making the fence arrangement, why not make it so that it runs along the fence?

http://www.ultimatetenonjig.workshopessentials.com/ shows one option- the right hand video around 6 minutes in shows it in action. the dvd and plans may cost you £20, but the mdf will cost next to nothing. It is also guarded which is important.

On an Axi TS200
From the inside of the mitre slot to blade; 94mm on the left slot and 88mm on the right slot
(nb The TS200 has non standard mitre slot widths and the distance will also vary slightly depending on blade width)

Looking at the pictures of that on the Rutlands site doesn't inspire me with much confidence. It looks a pretty rough standard of construction. Maybe worth £50, but I was amused by the footnote "All tablesaw safety features and guards must be kept in place and in good working order during the use of this jig. " which would be impossible for all the current UK table saws I've seen.

DIY with decent guarding seems a better way to go.

To answer the OP question:-

My TS has the LH slot 120mm from the blade and the RH slot 150mm from the blade. Measured centre to centre (Xcaliber 10" cabinet saw)

Regarding the tenoning jig: I have one of these and it a very safe in use and with each hand on the vertical handles as per instructions, it is impossible to fall foul of the saw blade. My version is the original Delta one which has been copied by many brands including Dakota and is micro adjustable and give me very repeatable results as is a pleasure to use.
No hesitation in recommending this type of jig.

On my Axi AW10BSB2 the distance from the centre of the blade to the inside edge of the mitre slot is 102mm on the left side and 172mm on the right side.
Cheers,
John

heh OK - well TY for the replies - it seems that there's no standard even between 2 saws from Axi - which at least gives me one less thing to fret about and more flexibility in the design. As to the fence guided system, I hadn't thought of that, although it's often mentioned on NYW.

Edit: Another interesting dvd from Steve Maskrey - I really should look into buying these once I'm up and running.
