hi guys,
after receiving some help from replies to this post i made (i-have-200-euros-mitre-saw-or-a-circular-saw-t64541.html), ive decided to buy a miter saw. thanks to those who replied and helped me make my decision.
now its time for me to choose my miter saw
the biggest question is, should i choose a sliding compound miter saw or just a basic miter saw? ive heard that at a given price, most basic miter saws are more accurate and durable than sliding miter saws, but sliding miter saws can cut multiple pieces at the same time to provide a better consistency. sounds like i got a hard decision to make...
and as per the title, my budget is 420 euros, which is roughly 340 pounds.
i currently have these ones in mind:
sliding miter saws:
DeWalt DW777
Bosch GCM 8SJ (this one's a bit over my price range, but it might really be worth that little extra money)
Bosch GCM 10S
basic miter saws. these are cheaper and i could probably use the money saved to buy something else:
Bosch GCM 10J
Metabo KS 254 Plus
if you know better models for under 420 euros, feel free to recommend it to me
thanks in advance for the advice

Bosch GCM 800 S, is one of the best I have ever used. I have one myself, sold it when I brought a radial arm but brought it again.

There are two models which is why its far cheaper on some website. One is old and the other new. Its the older one Ill vouch for as I have never used the newer one.

Hi hudson,
I didn't know there are two models of gcm 800 s... What are the differences? Is the new one actually more accurate or does it just have some new, fancy features?
also, what are some other good miter saws you have used?

i just edited my thread and added a few options and raised the price threshold. i think im ready to buy something around 350 euros.

I don't know the difference but if the newer one is more accurate then its not worth the extra as the older one is perfectly accurate for wood work.
Makita 1012 (maybe 1013) is a brilliant saw also but new is far more then your budget and quite a bit larger than the Bosch 800. DeWalt have a good saw or two but I forget which numbers metabo I have never touched anything other than there sanders I think. Evolution Rage is a decent saw.

The think with mitre or sliding saws is as long as you can adjust everything you can tune them to be as accurate as the next. I had a JCB slider years ago and I got it bang on, did me for a few years and I sold it in perfect working order.

Hi Hudson,
I know the evolution rage is famous for being able to cut almost all materials with the same blade, but how is its accuracy compared to the gcm 800 s? Also, is the rage 3 db worth buying or should I just buy the standard rage 3 to save some money?
Sam

Not sure on the rage 3 db but as for there accuracy there ok but like I say any saw that has the adjustments can be made to be bob on. The blade maybe able to cut different materials but I would swap it out for a better one. Same story for any saw really a decent blade makes a difference.

If you do get a Rage saw save the rage blade for when you had something unusual to cut, the rage blades I've used in their circular saws isnt great for general wood work.

I've had (well still got but in need of repair) a makita ls1013 (I think!), a very good saw but heavy and in need of a tune to be very accurate.

I bought the LS1013 second hand a while back; took a little effort to set it up right but since then its been dead on and I'm very happy with its performance. It is pretty heavy though, depends if you need to move it I suppose.

so i see the makita ls 1013 is very popular eh...
well it seems very hard to find one where i live though...
after some more research, i decided to replace the dw770 option with the dw777 and eliminated the option of gcm 800s. and yes, i have once again raised my budget, i just thought i would just save up for a little while longer and buy a better saw :)
now i think ill just have to choose between the gcm 8 sj and dw777
