Started off of the back of Sparkymarkys lovely shot of the crescent moon and rather than hijack his thread any more, I thought it would be better to start another for whatever photographs the members would like to show us?

Taking photos has been a bit of a hobby of mine for longer than i like to remember and I don't normally go very far without my camera. A couple of Christmases ag I was luck enough for Pére Noël to bring me a rather nice camera. A Canon 500D with a Canon 18/200mm stabilised lens, along with a nice big 16 gig SD card. That means that I can go totally stupid and take loads of photos without the chance of running out of 'film'..

Mark, mentioned above, took a lovely shot of the crescent moon the other evening and I would like to show a couple of the moon shots I have taken.

Several years back we were lucky enough to have a clear sky and an 80% lunar eclipse

Hudson asked if landscapes were my normal subject? No, just about anything that takes my fancy and I suppose that for every 50 or so I get one that I really like. That for me is the wonder of digital..

This was before digital times, taken at Kemble airfield about 10 years back. It isn't doctored in any way apart from scanning and reducing it for photobucket. I still have the neg and original photo.

this is through the lens of my microscope at X50 of a tiny bug on one of the leaves from one of our lemon trees. Taken with the my Sony DSC F707, the camera I had before my Canon. No special lens, just the big fixed lens it came with

If you don't try, you will never know I suppose

Nice photos!

I have a 400d, the rubbish kit lens plus a 28-135 IS and a 100-300 but I borrowed my daughters 18 - 200 IS for our holiday in OZ and NZ and it's a great all rounder.

Here are a couple of pics (reduced quality jpeg to upload to photobucket). both taken with the 28-135

These little beggars in Cairns freaked out my wife :)

But not as much as this guy in the middle of nowhere in South Africa. he was very menacing and looking at his battle scars................ More than a match for our little nissan hire car

obviously got a caterpillar problem :)

hope you enjoyed the photos. please keep uploading your own and lets keep this thread going.

cheers, mark.

What kind of beetle is that Lons? They have hippodromes over here and the silly sods don't race hippos, they race horses  Well, some you win? I wouldn't like to tangle with one!

I love moody cloud shots like those Mark. We also have a problem with catapillars only ours are pine processionary ones and they are real nasty little perishers. They are covered in toxic hairs that can, and do, kill dogs, cause very nasty rashes on your skin, can blind you and cause heart problems in some people. Just google pine processionary caterpillar problems and you will see what I mean. When we get their cocoons in our pines I cut them out and burn them! One yesterday!!

We get the odd silver lining too. This was a few days back. Same place as the moon photo above

Some nice catrepillars as well. Deaths head hawk moth jobbie.

Wow, guys,
Love the photos - especially yours, Steve - I see you've copyrighted them - do you sell them, os is that in case some b'stard tries to nab them?

Oh, and Happy Between Christmas and New Year to everyone.

Don't know John.
The photo doesn't do them justice as I reduced the size and quality. They were about 10-12mm long and brilliantly coloured. I must look them up!

My son is a very enthusiastic photographer and has recently traded in his conon 400d setup for a 5d and pro "L" lens. Some of his photos are amazing and though I've posted previously, worth a look for anyone interested. Has recently been experimenting with light ball techniques which mean wilderness dead of night excursions

I'm not in to photography much, but occasionally take photos (if I remember to take my camera!)

These are my favourite

The moment you take a photograph, write an article/poem/story, make or design a piece of furniture, you establish copyright. No need for any further action in law. Even if you do 'copyright' your work, you still need to prove it's yours to sue anyone for illegal use. Hence the redundancy of 'copyrighting' a work.

HTH
John

Edit..
The spherical object looks like an 'oak-gall', and it's the home of the larva of a Gall-wasp. Usually found on oak trees.

Unless it's a fruit, in which case I can't help any further, except to say it's a larva that eats fruit! !

HTH!

I have a Cannon EOS 50D DSLR with a few lens and a Cannon EOS 100 35mm SLR with a Sigma 18/200 lens which never comes off as its not compatible with my digital.

My work can be found here: http://www.facebook.com/media/albums/?i ... 1743952534

Some of my latest (and some from 2010) is still waiting for me process. I privately teach Photoshop so naturally I like playing in post-process stage and making effects.

I shoot in raw only unless she wants "snaps" so I can fill a 16gb card in a few hours so carry 2 with me plus a range of diffusers for the light gun.

I watermark purely to stop customers and "friends of" just nicking the photo and printing it themselves without paying for the right.

I seem to do more kid photography but my main interests are quirky architecture details, none human street, artistic and artistic nude, fantasy, fetish etc

The later stuff isn't something I have had chance to do. Its not sleazy as you may think. Take a look at http://timbham.blogspot.com/2010/09/tif ... 4572a89d2e for an example and these are a few of my fav shots from this photographer http://timbham.blogspot.com/2010/07/raphaella.html

Im not bothered about seeing the models bits in the shot, its more getting the model to sit right in the surroundings. So run down buildings and gardens with character. These from Tim are a perfect example and again some of my favs http://timbham.blogspot.com/2010/08/hol ... rence.html

Quite a few of the shots you see from tim are at a studio thats across the road from me (rams head, all them Rephella shots, Tiffany). I was in the middle of organising my first shoot there, artistic nude and non nude, indoor and outdoor garden fantasy, when the studio closed down :(. So im still to get my foot into the genre I prefer.

I have done a couple nude art but it was using my partner as the subject and she will not let me publish them, there even in a password protected folder on the pc : rolleyes :

Im not sure that these links brake the rules, there not porn but do require you are over the age of 18, there is a disclaimer on the site before your allowed to see. As there more art I risk posting but ill not be offended if mods feel they need to be removed.

Interesting stuff there.
I bet the models nude bits soon become 'boring' when you are after tricks of light etc.
I do lot of photography, mainly for promoting my work as a sculptor, but also landscapes and skies, I like if I can to bring in an element of the abstract eg I have had a 'thing' for years about shadows and reflections.
This picture was taken on my hellish commute to work. Poor me I have to cycle 9 miles along the River Wye day in day out.
windmill (2).JPG

Here I am after cycling to work one day last winter, minus 8c, glorious stuff.

Another wintry shot
seedheadsicy1.JPG

I upgraded my compact to an Olympus 4/3 SLR, a great improvement. A lot of my work is about space and light and photographing a barely there structure like the seedhead above with an autofocus camera can be a royal PITA.
Last one for now, a Raven above Rhayader, I always bracket my shots, the underwater effect in the clouds shows why.

Well thats half the artistic part, you forget you have a young good looking model in front of you as you're concentrating more on lights, prop placement, pose and angles. Metering the shot and then adjusting the camera for the shot your after. So im told anyway.

Many great shots in this thread. It also shows that its not always the camera. I have seen some great shots taken on full auto and even using point and shoot. =D>

I love the close up portrait shots but I hate standard posed shots. Infact the face shots in HDR and B/W look really good. See Alan Sharpiro's portrait series https://plus.google.com/photos/11405608 ... z=a77e4bc3

Google+ is a great place for photography if anyone is interested. Im following a few photographers on there and there is normally something good to see daily.

Since nobody has gone underwater here are a few from another hobby.

I've found that i had to relearn photography when I went underwater. It took me a few hundred Photos before I was getting anything worth showing

When I started this thread I knew that there had to be some photographers on here, but what a lovely surprise it's turned out to be!! 8) 8)

I had meant to answer the comment about the Red Arrows opposition pass photo earlier and now I can't find it, so for whoever asked. They missed and I was stood in exactly the right spot and hit the button at exactly the right time and if I tried it again for the rest of my life it just would not have worked. I was just VERY lucky  I followed one with the camera and watched the other one with my other eye..
