I can't add anything. He was the very best sort of comedian - witty, gentle, original, hugely funny.

I did find this though - if you never saw it the first time, it's well worth it. The 'interviewer' is Pamela Stephenson, Billy Connolly's wife. Gerald's alter ego is Rowan Atkinson.

Mel Smith looks so like an old school friend of mine, he was a highly talented and very funny (Mel I mean not my school friend) and will be sadly missed. I noticed from that clip it say's it's from "The best of Not The Nine O'Clock News (Vol1), I would find it very difficult to pick out my 'best clips' because it was all great, one of the best comedy shows of all time.

Selective memory at work there, I think. There was some filler material in there, as there is with all shows.

But some solid gold too, of course.
