Nice catchy title I thought. Anyway I have an external door in a bedroom that would be great if could be opened a crack and securely. Cant have a window due to planning and being in a national park. Not been able to find anything but bet the right thing is out there if I knew what to search for. Any pointers would be great

Thats spooky.......I went to see a job on friday where the client is goung to have 2 sets of French doors and Juliette balcony but no other windows. They want the option to have a door opening a crack for ventilation but also remain secure.

Apologies Beau, I dont have any answers, but will be watching with interest......

Just an ordinary door chain?

Nice idea but it needs to not flap about in the wind. Security is nut crucial as it's into the garden and we live in the middle of nowhere.

There are special hooks, that are mounted on the inside of the door frame, but hook into a plate on the edge of the door. Have no idea what they are called, but were always used for cabin doors on ships.

Opening securely is the difficult part. I've heard people knocking the pins out of hinges, bending them slightly, then reinserting them. The slight curve creates enough friction to keep them ajar -apparantly. So do you want to be able to leave it securely open whilst you're out ?

Edit- got my securely and security fuddled up.
Would something like this do the job?

Pull the cord to release.

Look for door a restrictor or limiting stay, you will want one that you can set the max opening on
