I'm looking to replace one of our central heating radiators. Done it before so not a big issue.

Trouble is this particular rad is 880 mm long (600 mm high) and the nearest size I can get is 900 mm which is clearly too big. I don't want to drop to 800 mm as in this location it will look a bit naff with longer tails. Can't understand why it should be a 'funny' size as it doesn't correspond with an imperial size, - especially as it's 600 high.

Any suggestions?

Different manufactureres used to do slightly different sizes, IIRC. Many moons ago I used to sell them, but to be honest the only brand I can remember is Stelrad, who are 800mm or 900mm.

Is this any good?

I would give somebody a call at plumb centre, or travis perkins etc. I remember that we would often have a request for a specific size, and would recognise it as being a particular brand. We would also know who stocked that brand.

Thanks Marcros,

I did do a search for that size and all I got were the expensive 'designer' rads and this is just a bog standard single panel convector.

i am struggling too :-(

would the pipe bend, or do you fancy doing a bit of plumbing?

Is there any way you can put a slight swan-neck in the pipes? A 900mm rad is a common size. You'd only need to gain 10mm either end.

Places like Screwfix sell radiator extension pipes. There silver and screw into the radiator and then connect directly up to your valve. You want the fixed length ones rather than those that allow a variable length. The variable length ones tend to leak after a while.

Thanks all,

Looks like it's gonna have to be a smaller rad and extentions. Such a weird size!
