I have started using MDO plywood for some workshop projects, so far i've found it to be great, a good bit lighter than normal ply not sure why, it took ages to track a supplier but when i did discover one they replied that they only supplied Timber and builders merchants.
Fortunately they seem to supply to most in the UK so if you fancy trying some ask your local suppliers if they have an account with finn forest who will in turn supply them
it cost me approx £30 inc vat per 8x4 sheet 18mm thick i have included a link to their specs

Ian..
are there any advantages other than weight to MDO over normal ply?

<assuming this is similar to the stuff Norm uses for shop jigs etc.
Top layer is like thin tempered hardboard.??

MDO = Medium Density Overlay. It has a paper type covering that takes paint well. It is used by signwriters because of its performance outdoors.
