Hey guys, I have just been to a friends house who wants new doors as the old ones are ruined. They are very limited on funds and i'm trying to think of the cheapest way to solve their problems. There are 5 18mm MDF boards in their garage which got me thinking.

Could i make fake ledge and brace doors (country cottage style) using MDF, routing groves down the front and back faces and then glueing and screwing the braces onto one side. They could then be painted what ever colour they would like?

Maybe Ply would be more stable? Anything thoughts would be great.

What you are suggesting is how I make my larder cupboard doors. I hang these on a cut down T hinge. I have not done many, 10 or so over as many years, but no problems reported.

Greg,
weight is not a problem. The door in photo is 1700 x 700. Others made have been 2000 tall. 18mm mdf is fine. Here is another one.
