I recently acquired 7 chisels for a mere £7.50, and in there was one Mathieson. Whilst best known for their planes, I knew they made chisels at some stage, but I think they are quite rare. It has been re-handled and I doubt the ferrule is original. It's marked Mathieson Glasgow and is a 1/4" but of firmer (no bevel) form which seems unusual to me. I think it may be v early 1900s but any knowledge or info please?
Any pics if poss as I would like to put a more suitable handle on it - what shape??

Dear Jim - can you describe to me what cheapskate feels like... it's alien to me, as you well know

I know mate...I know!

The reason I mentioned beech actually was that Old Tools sell the exact beech handles for £3.50......

I'd go for box myself...as you well know!
