I'm looking to get:

Marine Plywood 6mm x 6 sheets
I can get Okoume Plywood Sheets from Fyne Boats at £75 each. From what I've read in the past, some types of marine ply aren't high enough spec to build a dinghy with so I'm tempted to go with Fyne, but wonder if people might know of cheaper sources or alternatives to Okoume?

I also need:
Douglas Fir
15x15 18m
15x22 18m
15x35 10.2m
22x22 3.8m
22x35 15m
I've searched for these and don't think it'll be tricky, but Fyne also sell it so I'm thinking to buy from them to save delivery.

Any thoughts or advice much appreciated.
Chris

I've not looked in detail, but have you checked Robbins in Bristol? They sell specialist marine timbers that few others handle, plus all the 'ordinary' stuff. Delivery nationwide. Their website includes a couple of pdf price lists.

That seems quite high on the ply. I was quoted 27 Inc vat for certified 9mm marine the other day as a cash purchase on 1 sheet (ie no trade account or regular transactions).

I am not sure if there are different marine plys- this one was the bs version, it may need to be different for actual marine applications.

That does seem a little expensive ! But I have dealt with Fyne Boat kits over the years , nice guys and always willing to support by phone if you are working on their plans / kits.
Robins would be my other option.
Having had issues with the ‘covid jobsworth’ at James Lathams this week ( totally unhelpful in an emergency situation) I would give them a wide berth!!!

Btw ( you may already be aware) Not all ply to BS1088 is ‘Lloyds approved’. You most certainly want Lloyds approved.....this may account for some of the price difference.

Thanks all.
Andy - They do carry the wood I need but it's more expensive than Fyne - closer to me, so I could collect but on balance delivery from Fyne along with the other materials I need makes them a better bet so far.
Marcros - I think the key for me is in Old-bodger's post, which is the BS standard and which I hadn't noticed before. Knowing that accounts for the different prices I've seen, I think - don't want to spoil the ship for a ha'porth of tar (or a couple of hundred quid of ply :? ).

ps had to look up spelling of ha'porth - apparently it's a half-penny worth.
