Supposedely it's the same makita but old models which makita doesn't makes anymore.
I'm looking at this small router Maktec MT372 , I can get it for £42 at my local store , I had a look at it and the build quality of it looked rather ok at least from outside.

Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with Maktec stuff and are they actually as decent as makita is?
the cheapest real makita stuff is at least 2x more expensive, which looks exactly the same, so quite a difference if it's the same stuff.

thanks

Looks the same as the Katsu Makita "copy" which is even cheaper than that. Few people on here rate them. Look on eBay or Amazon if you are bothered about saving £5.

I'll bet it isn't. Someone else came on here talking about the Katsu being a Makita with a Makita warranty etc, didn't take long to realise that's not the case.

I would imagine it's just another Chinese clone.

Dead right. Makita UK had this range forced on them by Japanese HQ some years ago. I remember going along to a trade day where dealers had to endure a very half-hearted presentation on the 'new semi-pro range' by not very happy Makita UK staff.

It's cheap, Chinese and, well, we know the quality. The power tool game especially fits the old adage 'you get what you pay for'.

We know it's cheap and Chinese, but we don't actually know the quality unless we've used or owned one. And, sometimes we don't get what we pay for, either. You only need to look at the cheap and horrible Trend badged routers that were available for a while a few years ago. Can't remember the model number, but definitely not something Trend should ever have put their name on.

Generally you're right, but now and again there's a pleasant surprise.

True enough Stu. I was generalising, but generally I'm right!

i have one, its in my bin, you are welcome to it, i bought it instead of taking the trusty makita home from work when i need one at home, there was a house move in between me buying it & using it for the first time, or it would have gone back.... on using it i lasted 10 minutes before decided to turn it off, took my bit out, cut its plug off & threw it... erratic variation running speeds, randomly just stopping to a complete halt & various other odd noises = no thanks this is dangerous.
