I finally found why the slider carriage didn't travel forward under its own power when released.
Getting into it I discovered there's a coil spring under the bed attached to one of the carriage bars to pull it fully forward.
The spring on mine is all but broken and has become detached.
I've looked at several parts diagrams but totally failed to see it !!!
Now I'm either just not recognising it on the drawing, or it's not there which might mean it's not available. :?
Does anyone have a diagram showing it and a part number?
I currently have to use it with the machine tilted forward so the blade assembly slides forward out of the way. Not good.

Try miles tools and machinery, they normally have all the spares for those

Can you post a picture of where your spring is? I can't see one on my LS1013 (or on any parts diagram).

I've never been aware of any 'spring action' on my carriage.

This may sound daft, but is the carriage lock knob loose enough to allow the carriage to slide? (DO NOT ask how I know this).

Good find Rodders, mine definitely doesn't have that part on it.

My thanks gents
I'd looked at several diagrams and not found it.
Naz you've got to look hard to find it. It's between the bed and the top side of one of the sliders.
When working it pulls the whole carriage forward thus taking the possibly still rotating blade away from the user on finishing a short cut. I had a very close shave with it once, just brushed the blade with my knuckle. Only a scratch, 5mm more ..................!!!!

Well found Naz, I had to go out, so didn't get as far as finding the spiral spring stockist,
On my link, "On European models only" probably means we've all been finding US diagrams and therefor not shown.
Jewson were the Makita agents, But this spring may not be swiftly available, so,apart from Naz's find,
spring also listed here,- please let us know how you get on!
