Hi everyone,
I found a video clip some while ago but cannot remember where unfortunately. Anyhow the demonstrator was showing how to make toy cars from scraps. Basically drill 4 holes in a piece of 4 x 2 (see further on) and mount on the lathe. Turn the 'wide' sides to the outline of a pair of cars fixed together by their bases. Sand and then remove from the lathe and separate on table or band saw. The 4 holes are used to push the axle through (so now you can see where they need to be drilled). Add 4 wheels and there you go - happy children / grandchildren. Racing cars or jeeps etc, plenty of variations. I was thinking a slot cut in each 'car' before turning, at about 20 degree angle would hold a piece of acrylic to serve as a windscreen? I'm sure the basic car idea could be further extended with some imagination - plenty of that on this forum.
Just one point, I tried it on a piece of 4 x 3 and it was not a success, too much turning needed to bring the extra width into shape.
