Just curious really.

Who on here makes paper briquettes? Did you buy or make whatever it us you use to make them? What's the best mix you've found?

Thinking ahead as i may have a go at making some this summer for the chiminea.

I've tried one of the presses with mixed success. My idea originally was to stuff paper bricks full of lathe chippings, to get rid of both and get some heat free. The main downside is the drying. It would take months in the winter (which is when you want to be doing it) to dry the damn things out. Even in the summer it takes weeks in a bone dry place.

I've made briquettes out of paper and sawdust/shavings, half a bucket of sawdust to a bucket of wet rotted paper, I hate waste and it bugged me to take bags of sawdust to the recycling yard for landfill.
To dry them I place the wet briquettes on wire mesh and cover them with a bbq plastic cover sheet, obviously the more water you can squeeze out the quicker they will dry.
I bought a briquette maker off eBay, it's ok but I would suggest making your own, I twisted my press the after only two days use!
There's lots of good info on YouTube if you interested.

I bought an eBay one and it's been great. I use it with paper that's gone through the shredder, hadn't thought about saw dust. Pile it in with loads of water and keep squashing it, add more until it's full. They do take ages to dry, though now it's warm the four that were sat damp in my conservatory dried in a few days. It's a waste of time really, but quite good fun.

I hadn't thought about using the sawdust etc, I might experiment with that too.
