The mouth insert on my bandsaw was getting worn so time to make a new one.
Without a lathe I managed to find someone selling an offcut on eBay the right size
and set about sawing a slice off the end
the mitre pusher that Startrite made for these saws can in handy. Rested the cylinder in a v block, and set the thickness on the length stop. Blade was way too fine for this size of aluminium so had to take it slowly...
but a nice even slice resulted along with loads of saw dust (is it still saw dust if it’s metal?)
lightly sanded the outer edge to give an interference fit to the holder, and smoothed off the saw marks to bring it down flush
Double sided tape stuck it to a wood offcut to give me a straight edge to index on the fence
And all fitted.
less chance of offcuts getting wedged now and looks a bit tidier too.
wish I had a lathe as would have been much simpler to just face and then part off a disc to the right size! Took about an hour all in with faffing about so not too bad and should be good for a few blade changes now.
