I have a problem with my google mail on my iMac. I have a Samsung Galaxy phone which I keep in the kitchen to get the best signal and the iMac is in the front room. I first get my e-mails on the phone for some reason and it can be three days later before they appear on my iMac but sometimes they don't appear at all on my computer. Sometimes I get a batch of ten on the computer all at once and I have already read them on the phone. Has any body any ideas why this is happening.

One other question, for some weeks now I have been getting e-mails from Russian ladies wanting to come to the UK and e-mails from shopping sites, all of these appear in the junk mail and despite deleting them as they come in they seem to re-appear a couple of days later. I have looked for the unsubscribe thing but on most of them its not there. I was wondering if there was another way to stop them . Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Sometimes I can't delete emails and it's about "permissions" so you might need to go to disc utilities (applications) to "repair permissions", followed by a restart.

How are your mail clients set up on the various devices?

POP/SMPT
IMAP/SMTP

Is your 'phone configured to retrieve the mail but leave the mail on the server?
or
delete it from the server?

you normally want the former.

If your 'phone is deleting the mail from the server then it won't be there for your computer to access when you log on.

Normal practice is to only delete mail from the server on your main computer account settings.

All other devices such as Tablets and 'phones in mobile use set to read only.

That way you get mail notifications on the move but the option for mail management back at base.

Thank God for the Ignore button as there are two new members (or are they one and the same?) who are posting gibberish.

Mod edit: some idiot/s posting from somewhere called "TUDOR GRANGE ACADEMY"

If they go in your junk mail why worry

I've also read that if you unsubscribe from unsolicited sources the sender knows the e-mail address is working and you will get a lot more unsolicited mail #-o

There's more than one establishment under that name,

Not sure about your technical issues but you should never follow any link in an unsolicited email including any unsubscribe link.

At best you will confirm that this is a valid email address thereby making it more valuable to the spammers but you also run the risk of downloading nefarious stuff to your computer/phone. Best just to accept it is going to happen and just delete them me thinks.

regards

Brian
