I'm looking to getting into some chip carving and wondered if anyone knows of any free practise templates that I could download?

I'm also looking to get a starter kit of knives - any tips on those; make/type etc?

Thanks (hammer)

Google Images would be a good start. With any search like this some of the pictures you find are going to be on pages that'll have more that you'll find useful, like one image leads to this page on the Woodworker's Institute site:
https://www.woodworkersinstitute.com/wo ... ing-guide/

But as chance would have it, I was glancing over an old woodworking book only yesterday that has a good section on chip carving. You can download it for free from Archive.org at the following link: https://archive.org/details/carpentrywo ... st/page/n8
You want section XI, beginning page 97.

Whilst I was getting that link for you I had a thought and did a quick search, Archive.org also has "Chip Carving" by Harris W. Moore from 1922 and "Chip Carving Patterns" by Wayne Barton from 1990.
