Looking at 28-40

Hi everyone, I'm looking at a Gregory wl240 (looks like Poole 28-40, made in Taiwan, mechanical variable speed) to upgrade on my record power cl3. My main concern with the cl3 is it doesn't like out of balance blanks and has a 3/4" spindle also I can't see it being powerful enough or stable enough to do outboard turning of anything large. Is the 28-40 a good lathe to use doing large bowls and platters or should I save and wait for something else?
