Linseed oil finish

Hello,

I have recently fitted iroko hardwood gunwhale to my fishing boat, and the result is very good. One gets a lovely sheen and it looks very pleasing with a real wood feel.

Looks nice to start with but in my experience it offers little real protection & will go dirty grey & attract mould. Apply too much & it never dries.
I learnt the lesson years ago, now i just give a quick sand down, slap a coat of woodstain on the gunwales once a year!
