I have a project planned which consists of walnut and a very pale veneer- probably white dyed tulipwood. I love the way that an oil brings out the grain on walnut and want this but I need the white not to yellow- it is to replicate snow. The project consists of marquetry so I don't think that I can pre-finish the parts because any oil will stop the pva from sticking on the edges.

I don't have spraying equipment but could use aerosols etc. I am looking for a satin finish- I can soften a shiny one with a bit of wax if necessary.

Super blond shellac maybe? Any other suggestion?

I would try an acrylic lacquer on the pale stuff - this shouldn't repell the pva like oils. Birch and hornbeam can also be very pale and might suit your colour scheme
