Just to prove I do woodwork I have an old wood turning lathe, (made lots of things) 2 routers, a compressor & a MIG welder, a bench saw & various hand tools, just bought a few books on carving as I would like to have a go at that as well, Oh yes bought a chain-saw from Tesco for £50!! great bit of kit for the money, dont waste your money on "proper" chain saw oil any old oil will do if its not to thick, if you think about it old chainsaws did not have an oiler they relied on the moisture in the wood, they knew what they were doing in days gone bye! Now that you have the chainsaw I urge you to buy protective gear - trousers/chaps, gloves, boots, helmet. It'll cost you more than the saw.

Are you sure about that Alf :?

I had an old Sthill petrol years ago and ran out of oil in the middle of a job, stuck in some engine oil and all that happened was it spewed out all over the place. I certainly wouldn't contemplate using it in my current chainsaw!

Chainsaw oil is sticky as it has a high viscosity to stop it "flinging" out. I think it has additives to reduce chain wear as well.
