Hi everyone,
Aldi are offering electric files (like the B&D powerfile) this Thursday 24th for £30, including 2 arms and some belts etc. Might not be a bad buy for the occasional user. I usually steer clear of cheapies, but I'm thinking of getting one of these. There's a 3 year guarantee, so I'll just make sure I keep the receipt.

There's quite a few other tools there too - probably not as good as Festool though.

Is it safe to use a power file on hardened steel (blades, chisels and whatnot)? I think they will be handy for restoring exceptionally bad blades... Or grinding the sides off of modern "bevel edged" chisels to make REAL bevel edged chisels.

Has anybody bought one?

What size belt does it use?

I rang Aldi but the girl there didn't know.

She could NOT send me a copy of the Instruction Manual either!

With best wishes and thanks.

I got one a few years ago and you can just about get a black and decker belt to fit length wise....

Not sure if this helps

I've now bought one

It takes belts 457mm long and both 8mm and 13mm wide

Assembling it though may be tricky!

I spent most of the evening trying to connect the bar to the the body of the sander and found that the Tracking Screw was VERY stiff.

So I cleared the thread with an M4 tap and now all is set for using it with the belt tomorrow.

It's a great pity that the tool won't fit in the case in an assembled state but one has to remove the bar first.

I note that Screwfix sell 13mm wide belts that look as if they should fit but have NOT been able to find a supplier of 8mm belts at a sensible price.\
