They look like something that would be used to cut a very viscous thing, like molten glass or sugar (thinking boiled sweets) candy?

No idea. The little built-in separate wire (round things) cutter looks interesting.

I've no idea either and I am hoping that you know the answer Andy.
But thinking aloud... it's prettily decorated so maybe for use at table, or possibly in the kitchen. Also, the decoration suggests a chicken to me, so something food related.
It cuts something, but does not look very sharp, so it must be something quite easy to cut.

The head and the beak seem to be for cutting something round and narrow in varying sizes of holes. My first thought was trimming quills .... (what with it being a bird and all) but you don't want square ended quills and what would the main blade be for?

The thing at the top is for cutting glass rod. You put the rod into the V, then press the cutting wheel against the rod and twist it.

I like your idea for the cutter Mike - can you sort out the other one as well?

We've all been assuming the steel parts are handles to squeeze together but they look uncomfortably thin. If you turn it round, could it be a very elaborate pair of dividers? Dividers that do something else as well?

Not sure, I knew the cutter because I used one in the lab two weeks ago.

The bird thing could be used for cutting or decorating molten glass...some sort of glass blowing tool (although it looks too elaborate for a functional tool like that)

I've just found that eBay has lots of listings for something called a 'sarota' or betel but cutter, which I'd never heard of before. They come in all sorts of whimsical designs too. Could it be one of them?

Was it spring loaded as mine maybe snapped?

Your theories for the other item are great but the cutting motion of the blade (should be sharper I guess) is where the action lies.
As far as I know everything else is purely decorative and may have some symbolic meanings, although of its type, from the resources thus viewed it would seem birds are not as common as some others.........

The plate (fence?) under the cutter is adjusted by 2 thumbscrews
And it has RAMZAN 2 stamped on it :?: (see the search results on that one :? )
Really don't like those sprung loaded pointy handles :shock:

Yes, it had a spring...there are different types, but that is exactly the same as the one I used the other week.
