OK time for another picture.
This is a Large Mouth Bass that I cut out about 2 years ago ( do you have large mouth bass over there?) The wood is Walnut and the backer is black felt. It was a fun project to cut.

That is a work of art. Very nice. I assume this is marquetry and the illusion you have created makes me very envious of your skills, I would even found it difficult to have painted by hand.

The fish we know as bass is a salt water species and has a slimmer body than your specimen. If it is a freshwater fish our nearest shape would possibly be the chub.
 
Yet another lovely piece of scrolling, Bob. I bet that kept you busy for a while :) . What wood did you use for this one?

Gill and Mike it is 1/2" Walnut

Devonwoody it isn't marquetry, I just scrolled out the openings and put on a black felt backer.
