I have just finished a large pantry cupboard and would like to add some small spice rack type shelves attached to the inside of the cupboard doors, however I am not sure what they would take weight wise.

The unit has 4 doors, the upper doors where I would want to put the shelves are each 1250 x 450 with 3 full overlay hinges on an 18 mm carcass. The doors are 23mm thick ash.

There are lots of ideas online, but lots of them look very heavy. Any ideas as to how to calculate a safe load?

Could you design the spice rack/whatever rack so that it adds rigidity to the door, instead of simply hanging off it?

Apologies if you were already intending to do so.
