Laminated rockers

Hi, I've been looking at Sam Maloofs rocking chair on Fine Woodworking, he shows how he laminates the rockers but I wondered

:?: what is the benefit ( there must be one or he wouldn't have done it ) of laminating as opposed to a single piece of wood ?

2 reasons i think,

strength, no short grain to be snapped off.

material, think how big a plank you would need to make a rocker.

I would imagine the benefit is that with a laminated rocker, there will be no "short grain" in the rocker

I restored a rocker for my daughter...and the rocking bits are a nightmare to make if you don't laminate or steam bend.

Lamination of contrasting wood can look stunning too.
