Hi all

I know that these machines have been covered many times in this forum and I have read all of the reviews.

I have just been let down by someone who agreed to sell me a workshop full of machines only to then sell them to a dealer who turned up with a van. I therefore have to start from scratch. I want to set up a workshop to make some small scale bookcases, cupboards etc for our house in France. I was looking at the Kity 419 or the Axminster TS200 but have opted for the Kity 419. I will be keeping an eye out on Ebay but am tempted to buy new as I will be taking the saw to France. There is little difference in price buying here or there. I am limited for time as we are moving over in just under a month. If I get one can anyone recommend a better blade.

Does anyone have any advice on the best place to buy to get the best deal? I see that you can buy direct from Kity for just shy of £700.

Thanks

Paul

I have a 419 and am very pleased with it.

I am just a hobby woodworker but I find it accurate and powerful enough for me. The extraction had already Been sorted before I got it and after careful setting up it is really quite good.

Downside is the tilt/rise and fall handle is a bit fiddly with the weight of the motor making the blade tilt adjustment awkward.

Steve Maskery's DVD actually uss this saw to demonstrate setting up a small table saw so that is very useful too.

I would definitely buy one again.

Mick

I have just read that the 419 has been discontinued to be replaced with something else this year. DOeas anyone know what the replacement is? I don't want to buy one if something newer is coming out

i had a kity 419, and would happily have another one if i wanted a table saw again. i don't know that i would spend £700 on one though, when for a little more than that there are various cabinet saw options. For up to £350 used, i think that they are a good buy. the prices have crept up over time, as has the ts200 and what was once a cheap saw is no longer so.

Looking at a Kity 419 on Ebay which is close to home. It is 8 years old and currently standing at £350 with three days to go. I am thinking that is moving towards expensive if it goes much higher. Any thoughts please as to what they are worth at that age.

I have a 419 and don't like it that much, for reasons I won't bore you with (see past discussions).

On the eBay item - It's probably too much, but it depends on whether it's got all the accessories - the sliding table is handy. Check the wear on the tilt pinion gear (on the end/just behind of the adjuster handle, outside the case). It's plastic on steel - guess what wins eventually. If it doesn't engage nicely, a replacement is quite pricey, and there's a steel T-bar peg inside it (on the shaft - engages the rise and fall mech) that eats the plastic too - you push the handle onto the peg against a spring, and if you don't keep the pressure on it will slip and possibly chew. if the rise and fall seems bumpy or clicks when you wind it - that handle will probably need replacing.

I wouldn't pay more than 300 for an unknown one, although all new (Chinese) prices will be shooting up very soon if they haven't already, as the pound is dropping on the exchange markets because of Quantitative Easing (devaluation) and the drop in British credit rating, although that hasn't hit yet (thanks George!).

You'll get a much better cut from a Freud blade, or probably one from Doug at Cutting Solutions.

In my limited experience, it's worth considering a thin kerf blade (such as Freud), even though you'll have to make or buy a thinner riving knife: the motor works less hard and there's less waste and dust. Useful if you're slicing lids off boxes, for example, but probably not if you're making housings (dados).

Hope that's useful overall,

E.

Thanks for your comments.

I did buy the Kity and probably for too much but it is a stop gap until I can find something bigger and new. They all seem to go for similar money no matter how old they are. As long as it does the few bits I want it to I will be satisfied. It has all of the bits and loads of different fences. The guy who sold it seemed a decent chap and his workshop was very well organised. His feedback was 100% so I am hoping he was honest with me. Time will tell and if not I will have learned a lesson that didn't cost me too much. It didn't have the manual but I have downloaded the Axminster TS200 one which looks similar.

Thanks to everyone for their comments.
