Kitty spares

I have a vintage Kity 636 planer/thicknesser and one of the lead screw nuts has become hopelessly jammed so that the thicknesses table is immovable. I have dismantled the table and had a go at picking the nut but I seemed to be doing more harm than good. The thread is single start and seems to be ACME, stub ACME or trapezoidal and has a lead of about 2.5 mm. The OD seems to be about 12.13 mm and the TPI aboiut 10. I can't get very accurate readings with my digital vernier so the measurements are not guaranteed. There are no spares available since the Kity outfit no longer exists and I can't find anybody who has Kity spares except for new belts, etc. I have sent the lead screw and nut to thread specialists in the hope that they can provide a tap which would clear the blockage. After a couple of weeks or longer, no results. It is just possible that spares ay be available in France sine Kity was a French company but haven't tried this avenue. Any suggestions would be welcome

Sad to say that this will be totally fixable, but the cost of buying new generic screws and nuts, then the machinists rate to have them machined and fitted will be more than the 636 is worth.
If it was a Wadkin or Sedgwick worth £2k plus after a full renovation it would be a different story.
I looked at Probois in France and they have a some spares for Kity PT's but few if any for the 636 and not the parts that you need.

If you have an out of production machine, you need to be more proactive about maintenance because once it's worn out or seized it's often too late, but sorry, you already realised this.

It will undoubtedly be a standard thread size. Just google acme threaded bar or similar and you should find suppliers. Most carry nuts and threaded sleeves to suit. The parts are very simple so I cant see a local engineering shop charging much to do any turning work needed. Best to remove your nut, just file down one side up to the internal thread then give it a good soak in plus gas, maybe a little heat and it should come off, then if the thread is ok you will only have to replace the nut.

How have you attempted to free the nut? I would soak it overnight in a jar of plus gas. Then get some bits of ply or similar to protect the thread so you can clamp it firmly in a vice. Maybe a bit of heat and I would be surprised if it wont come off. If you then clean it all up and run it up and down the thread with plenty of oil it may be re useable.

12 mm x 3 mm pitch is a common standard of metric trapezoidal thread. If that is within your measurement error. I can’t see Kity opting for a non standard thread. For standard threads you can buy nuts and all threads as well as taps dies etc
Standard Acme threads are imperial only
Next size down is 10 x 2 but I can’t see your diameter measurement being that far off

When Kity stopped trading they where bought out by Schepach who continued to manufacture the machines under their name, current machines may be different, can't do any harm to contact them.
