Kids kitchen finish

I've made a play kitchen for my daughter from red deal. I just need some advice on the best finish for it.
I want to keep the natural timber look so I'm looking for a clear coat. Also because it is child orientated I suppose a water based finish might be more child friendly (safety wise) but i still need some durability.

Any suggestions?

a good starting point is the chestnut products website, which will state which finish is food safe.

Osmo oil is certified kid and animal safe. Tested to German standards I think its TUV marked or something. Leaves a nice finish (matt, satin or gloss) and dead easy to apply.
Also durable as its for floors too.
