I have an extinguisher older than that. The pressure gauge says it's fine and it has a weight on the bottle, it says to replace when 10% under weight, so far it has lost less than 1% in almost 40 years so good for me

You're right, it might not, which is why I have another extinguisher in the workshop as a backup, there is also a tap and hose in there too. If I do anything with fire (such as when I make candles), I connect up the hose and have it ready to go.

Just be careful. I worked for an organisation that was 'fire related' and given a number of out of date extinguishers.

One of these was later operated and duly exploded causing some significant injuries. Subsequent investigations showed marked internal corrosion of the dry powder extinguisher.
