Hi all
I am currently making a collapsible desk for our spare room office. The desk top is made up of 130mm x 28mm beech that have previously been internall glazed screens. The timber has sat in my garage roof space for around 6 months and has shown no real signs of cupping. Due to the condition of the internal face I have selected the back of the board to be the top, this has meant all growth rings are in the same direction. I will be attaching a full width Batton to the under side to fix the legs to.
Do I need to worry about the table top cupping overtime. I had considered running a saw cut the full length of the boards so as to take some pressure off. Or am I worried about nothing?
see below photos, the sapelle squares are so I didn’t have to use up all my long lengths.
