I had been getting fed up of loose toilet rolls floating around in our downstairs loo, so decided to pull out some scrap oak and make a toilet roll holder.

First I turned the bits for a sprung spindle.

Finished and mounted to wall using screws in routed keyhole slots in rear.

We've got a bog-standard one but that looks classy, well done.

What stops the spindle coming apart when you change the roll?

If you look at the first pic, one core piece has a stepped end, that sits inside a stepped hole. The other straight one is glued in place, meaning just one end is sprung, but is stopped by the step.
